Road spray, dust, pollen, sun — the same list as driving the car. Vehicles are secured at the wheels, not the frame. If the car currently lives in a Naples driveway, open exposes it to nothing new.
When enclosed is the right call
Ground clearance under about five inches. Agreed-value collector policies. Fresh paint or a completed restoration. Genuinely irreplaceable vehicles where the argument over a stone chip would cost more than the freight difference.
What you are actually buying
A hard-sided trailer, soft-tie wheel straps that never touch bodywork or suspension, a lift gate that loads at nearly zero approach angle, fewer cars on the load, and typically $1,000,000 of cargo liability instead of $250,000.
What you are not buying
