Verify the company first
- MC and USDOT number stated on the website — verify both on FMCSA SAFER before anything else.
- Broker or carrier? Ask directly and get a direct answer.
- Surety bond amount and current status.
- State registration (in Florida, SUNBIZ) under the same name you are being quoted by.
Step 2
Verify the quote
- Did they ask whether the vehicle runs? If not, the number is fiction.
- Is the broker fee disclosed as a separate line from the carrier's pay?
- Is the total all-in, including fuel, tolls and any residential or gated access charge?
- What is the pickup window in days — not the 'estimated pickup date'?
- What happens to the deposit if no carrier is secured?
Step 3
Open carrier specifics
- Confirm the vehicle's real dimensions and weight — lifted, oversized tires, roof rack, long bed all reprice the load.
- Confirm top-deck or bottom-deck is not being guaranteed to you; carriers assign it.
- Ask what happens if the truck cannot reach your street: where is the staging point?
Step 4
Every move, without exception
- Turn off, bag or remove your toll transponder — SunPass, E-ZPass, I-PASS. We are not responsible for tolls incurred in transit.
- Personal items: 100 lbs maximum, trunk or below the window line, at your own risk. They are not covered by cargo insurance.
- Remove toll tags, garage remotes, EZ passes, parking permits and anything else that transmits or opens a gate.
