Shipping a Car From New York to Naples, Florida

New York sends more seasonal residents to Southwest Florida than almost any other state, and the metro-area lane into Naples runs nearly year-round. Upstate New York is a very different picture: lower density, longer waits, and a routing that goes down the I-81 spine rather than I-95.

Route

The New York to Naples run

Carriers run I-95 south from the metro area, or I-81 south from Upstate to I-77 and I-95. Expect roughly 3 to 6 days in season from the day the vehicle is loaded — not from the day you book. The distance is roughly 1,400 miles, which for a multi-car load with other stops is several driving days plus mandated rest.

Lake-effect snow in Buffalo and Syracuse is a real December and January factor for upstate pickups. The metro lane is rarely weather-limited.

Timing

When New York snowbirds ship south

  • Metro New York southbound volume starts in September and runs hard through November — it is the earliest and longest fall wave of any northern market.
  • Manhattan pickups are effectively never curbside. Garage meets, or a pickup from a Westchester or New Jersey location, are the norm.
  • Long Island loads are common but the parkway system bans commercial trucks, so pickups route along the Expressway and a meet point is usually needed.
  • Westchester and Fairfield County households frequently move two vehicles; combining them on one load is much easier than two separate pickups in October.
Book before the first hard freeze forecast, not after. Southbound requests out of New York spike within about 72 hours of that news, and the trucks that had space the week before are already committed.
Pickup

New York pickup markets

New York City

Garage or lot meet only; drivers cannot stand a ten-car on a Manhattan street, and outer-borough loading needs a planned staging spot.

Long Island

Parkways are closed to commercial carriers, so the truck routes via the LIE and you meet at an agreed lot.

Westchester County

Wooded, winding roads in Bedford, Scarsdale and Rye; a village-center or highway-adjacent meet is common.

White Plains

Good highway access and large commercial lots make this a practical consolidation point for the whole county.

Buffalo

Upstate lane off I-90; expect a wider pickup window than the metro area, especially in December.

Rochester

Served off I-90; often paired with a Buffalo or Syracuse stop on the same truck.

Syracuse

Sits on the I-81 southbound spine, which helps availability relative to the rest of upstate.

Albany

Capital District pickups route via I-87 and I-90; a highway-adjacent meet is the fastest option.

Delivery

Arriving in Naples

Most New York households fly into RSW in Fort Myers, 35 to 45 minutes north of Naples. Don't build a plan that requires an airline and a carrier to both run on time: have the vehicle delivered a few days before you land with an authorized receiver, or arrive first and bridge the gap with a rental.

Confirm before pickup day whether a full-size carrier can enter your community. Manned gates need the driver pre-authorized, several associations restrict commercial vehicles outright, and condominium towers are always an arrival-loop handoff.

Return leg

Planning the spring trip back to New York

The northbound season is compressed into March through May and behaves very differently from the fall. Worth reading before you book the southbound leg, because the two decisions interact.

We arrange transport with licensed carriers on a seasonal spot market. We do not publish route prices, guarantee exact pickup or delivery dates, or claim offices in cities where we have none. Availability and pricing change with direction, season and equipment.
