How to File a Damage Claim
All claims are filed with the carrier, not the broker. That is how the federal structure works. We help you assemble, submit and push the claim — but the carrier's cargo policy is the policy that pays.
Call 239-273-4649Step 1 — Note it before you sign
Write the damage on the delivery Bill of Lading, in the driver's presence, before signing. This single step decides most claims. If you have already signed a clean BOL, a claim is still possible but substantially harder.
Step 2 — Photograph everything, immediately
The damage from multiple angles and distances. The car in full. The truck, the cab's DOT number and the truck's plate. The signed BOL. Timestamped photos taken at the delivery location carry far more weight than photos taken the next day in your garage.
Step 3 — Call us the same day
We pull the carrier's certificate of insurance, dispatch paperwork and contact information and open the file with them. Same-day contact removes the argument that the damage happened after delivery.
Step 4 — Get a written repair estimate
One or two written estimates from a body shop, on shop letterhead. For a collector or exotic vehicle, use a marque specialist; a general shop's estimate will be discounted by the adjuster.
Step 5 — Submit to the carrier's insurer
The package is: pickup BOL, delivery BOL with the damage noted, pickup and delivery photos, repair estimates, and a short factual narrative with dates. We submit alongside you and follow it.
Realistic timelines
Cargo claims commonly take 30–90 days. An adjuster may inspect. Push politely and in writing at every stage, and keep every message. Most claims that fail, fail on documentation, not on merit.
